The Government Audit Agency (BPK) found that six companies had been allegedly involved in multi-billion dollar tax disputes. The total amount of these taxes is more than IDR 50 trillion (around US$5.5 billion).
The BPK's report submitted to some lawmakers from Commission XI specializing on financial affairs. "The report [is based on the data] from Tax Office," said the vice chair of Commission XI, Achsanul Qosasi, at the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta today.
The audit report found that most of the IDR51-trillion tax disputes came from six companies, which had been brought to the tax court. Two of them, said Achsanul, are major palm oil companies, AA and W. DPR asked BPK to audit the tax issue in last August.
From 2002 to 2009, the Tax Court had dealt with 22,105 cases - 61 percent of them lost to the taxpayers.
